One of the questions I’m asked about living in the inner city is if I feel safe. I don’t like this question. It makes me think of my 90 year old neighbor and if it’s ok if she lives in a place that’s not considered safe. Or of my neighbor that’s a single mom of 4 kids. What gives me the right to need to feel safe when others don’t? Does my safety matter more? Does my life matter more? When we say that Black Lives Matter we need to think of the places many poor Black people live. It’s not fair some of them have no choice to live where they don’t always feel safe. This is a part of the system that’s broken and needs to be fixed.
